So I went to a faculty student discussion on sustainability last night. They provided dinner.
I wandered around, looking at the food, hungry but unable to eat anything. Then I saw the steamed vegetables.
So I picked a plate full of carrots out of the steamed vegetables. And then added some raw carrot slices from the other veggie tray. I turned around and my friend who was also there looked at my orange plate, looked confused, and then said, "Ah. Carrots." He was trying so hard not to laugh. Then I went outside with everyone, and all of these professors from all over Puget Sound were looking at me like I was crazy while I carefully picked all the little seeds from other vegetables off of my carrots before eating each one slowly and appreciating it fully.
It was amazing. No one asked me what the hell I was doing. They all just accepted it for some reason.

Sounds like they made an anomaly out of you!
"So how does it feel to pick other vegetables off your carrots? Why do you do it? Are you anti-everything-that's-not-a-carrot?"
